Thanks for posting, Curt. I believe watching the advance copy of Jeremy Irons' Lolita at your house marks the second time you understandably regretted seeing a film with me (1992's <ahref=http://www.amazon.com/Deep-Cover-Laurence-Fishburne/dp/6305505802>Deep Cover being the first, when I laughed too loud during a serious scene). You may or may not recall, Humbert Humbert in Lolita cuts off a truck loaded with hay, causing the load to topple and for me to blurt out: "What the hey!"

I really need to watch that X-Files episode again, Reilly was the Paul Lynde of that generation after Paul Lynde died, I tell ya...

Speaking of Nabakov references, there's a fun one in the "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" episode of "The X-Files." It's very post-modern and self-satirical, with Charles Nelson Reilly doing a nice job as a Truman Capote-esque writer. Someone refers to one particular alien as "Lord Kinbote," which happens to be the same name as the unreliable narrator of Nabakov's post-modern novel 'Pale Fire.'
