"I think most cartoonists are afraid of stating their real opinions of their peers’ work. Why? Because it’s a small community and things get around. And they’re afraid that if they make some critical comments of a colleague they will be “blacklisted” somehow. They are protecting their own “careerist” concerns."

Or maybe
1. They're busy putting all their time and energy into making comics?
2. They're busy with other things, even good and useful things?

No, it's probably because they're all cowards and careerists!

I'm a bit confused by Frank Santoro's comparison between 4-color printing and what he calls "full-color printing" … perhaps he's referring to various digital printing systems with the latter phrase? Running offset always requires a pass per color, regardless of what's actually in the ink wells. The same with gravure and for that matter, letterpress, etc.

Interesting article

Frank didn't come right out and say it exactly, but the impressive thing about old churches is that they are designed as acoustic spaces. The preacher and the choir could be well heard and sound great without electrical amplification. There is a space that is carefully designed for a desired effect. A choir builds a euphoric bed of subliminal sound textures through which one man stands up and delivers the audible sermon straight in to the very receptive audience. Contrast that to a modern southern baptist preacher yelling at an audience through a cheap PA in a boxy room. That's the same difference between a Chris Ware and a David Heatley comic. That's what you were trying to say, right Frank?
