Archive of American TV: Paul Shaffer on Working with Letterman

I cannot believe I did not think to track down the Archive of American Television’s interviews with Paul Shaffer.

I could listen to Shaffer talk about Letterman all day.

Missed It: Brian Williams on Letterman

I am sorry I missed Brian Williams on The Late Show with David Letterman last night.

Particularly judging from the above clip, Dave seemed in rare form.

Robert Plant on Letterman

CBS has yet to post Robert Plant’s musical appearance from last night’s episode of The Late Show with David Letterman.  And I hope they do, because Plant’s current band, Band of Joy, includes Darrell Scott, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller.

In  the meantime, enjoy this snippet of Letterman’s interview with Plant, where he discusses getting to meet and talk to Elvis Presley back in the early 1970s.

At the end of tonight’s musical performance, Letterman offered to buy the mandolin-playing Scott a “real guitar”. A funny moment at the end of a great, tight performance.

Letterman’s Appreciation of Larry King

Every week, David Letterman (and his writing staff) reminds me why he’s far funnier than Leno. For a great collection of Larry King bits (including Robert Blake’s insane interview) scroll forward to the 3:25 mark.

Bonus Elvis Costello on Letterman

CBS Late Show with David Letterman is offering bonus web-only content from tonight’s Late Show with David Letterman: “Elvis Costello presents an exclusive web-only bonus performance of Jimmie Standing in the Rain from his new release, National Ransom.”

Understandably the Late Show is not allowing folks to embed this web exclusive content, but I am able to embed Dave’s 2010 Halloween costume sketch instead. This sketch is one of those rare ones that Letterman does every year where he gets to work with kids. I love when Letterman works with kids.

Spawned from Late Night TV: CelebriGum

The writers on David Letterman’s NBC and CBS incarnations share something in common–they are wacky.

The latest evidence of this wackiness, the website CelebriGum.

Whatever I write cannot do justice to this site’s oddness. So I merely quote directly:

“Every afternoon I stand by a second floor window in the Ed Sullivan Theater and take low-quality cellphone photos of guests arriving at the Late Show with David Letterman. In the foreground of each shot is a wad of old gum I noticed on the window ledge. There may be better paparazzi photos on the internet, but this is the only place you’ll find the juxtaposition of celebrities and hardened gum. Enjoy!”

Missed It: Bill Murray on Dave Letterman

Anytime that Bill Murray appears on David Letterman, it makes for classic television. I missed last night’s appearance, but fortunately CBS posted a clip to the Late Night site.

The man will bleed in the name of comedy.
