Free Music from Mishara Music
I’m pretty sure I had your attention from when I wrote the word “free”. Mishara Music is offering links to free music from a variety of musicians. I had already told you about the Jason Spooner opportunity, of course, but there’s also free music from:
- Kat Maslich-Bode
- Merlowe and the Dry Tear
- Peter Bradley Adams
- Colin Devlin
As I said, I had already linked to the Spooner opportunity on this page. But Spooner is offering folks another special tune as a holiday gift. It’s a Bob Dylan cover, Girl From The North Country, performed live with Dar Williams. Friend of the blog, Damien Goyenechea, tipped me off to the song as well as this You Tube version of it.
Peter Bradley Adams on His Music
Posted by admin in Music, Uncategorized on May 19, 2010
I first became aware of Peter Bradley Adams‘ musical acumen back in 2005 when he was one-half of the musical duo, Eastmountainsouth, and one of the duo’s songs was featured on the Elizabethtown soundtrack. More recently, Adams has pursued his solo interests, including (as detailed at his website) “Gather Up, Leavetaking, and his most recent, Traces, in October 2009 on Sarathan Records“. If you’re looking to get a taste of Adams music for free, you’re in luck as currently Amazon is offering a sampler of three of his songs here. He’s currently back in the studio, recording his next release-and has established a Kickstarter page to collect funds for it. Before getting into the interview, one last tip-Adams will perform live on WUMB (Boston, MA) next Wednesday, May 26, at 2pm. My thanks to Adams for his time and Sarathan’s Marc Ratner for helping to arrange the email interview.
Tim O’Shea: Over the past several months, your songs have appeared on CBS’s The Mentalist, WB’s One Tree Hill and ABC’s Brothers and Sisters. What do you think it is about your music and/or lyrics that makes it so clearly appealing to TV producers?
Peter Bradley Adams: I think the producers for those shows are just looking for the right mood from a song. And of course lyrics that fit but don’t describe the scene too literally. And I just happened to have a few songs which fit the bill and got in their hands at the right time. I’m lucky.
Claire Small on How Do You Like Love?

In researching an upcoming Peter Bradley Adams interview, I learned about the music of Claire Small, and found myself drawn almost immediately to her songwriting and voice (the latter of which reminds me of Shawn Colvin). I love Small’s succinct and effective bio: “Claire Small is living out her musical adventure that includes leaving, losing, loving and moving to Texas to sing her heart out.” This spring (May 18, 2010 to be exact) will see the launch of her third release, How Do You Like Love?, for Freedom Records. But in the runup to the May release, Small will be offering folks the chance to buy pre-release packages very soon. Also to whet listeners’ appetites, Small recently revealed that the album’s title track (“How Do You Like Love?”) will be available to download for free sometime in February. She also will be opening for Asleep At The Wheel for a few shows in Arizona, and then returns to Austin to play the Cactus Cafe on Feb. 13, 2010, with Terri Hendrix. My thanks to Small for her time and thoughts.
Tim O’Shea: What was the big attraction to move from Nashville to Austin, Texas a few years ago?
Claire Small: I actually moved to Houston first to be with someone I was in a relationship with but only stayed there about 5 months. When things started to not go so well I knew I had to leave but I didn’t want to go back to Nashville. In 2006 I had been to Austin to play ACL Fest and really liked the city. It seemed so laid back and the people were really nice and very into live music. So, I thought I would go and check it out on my own and stay a week to see if I liked it enough to live there permanently. I haven’t left since.
Radio: Dave FM’s Inside Eddie’s Attic
As much as I love music, I have an embarassing admission to make. I have never set foot in the local major musical venue in Decatur, Georgia (aka my backyard), known as Eddie’s Attic. I mean, I’m looking at the venue’s website right now, and this Wednesday they’re featuring Peter Bradley Adams (formerly of eastmountainsouth) and that is just one of many people I’d love to see live that they seem to host on a regular basis.
But what got me thinking of Eddie’s Attic was listening to the radio show, Inside Eddie’s Attic this past Sunday the host (and founder of the venue) Eddie Owen played a great collection of live holiday tunes recorded at the attic. If you’ve never listened to the show, you’re in for a treat.
Now, I just need to make the time and finally get myself down to the attic myself. This Christmas Eve Eve is looking better and better by the minute, honestly.
